Russian with Jonah
(University of Pennsylvania, B.A. in Russian, 2017)
Jonah can claim 13 years of Russian language study. He was awarded 2 NSLI-Y scholarships for fully funded Russian summer immersion in the heartland of Russia.
Jonah built upon those transformative experiences in high school and continued to work towards fluency in Russian at the University of Pennsylvania. He spent numerous summers in Russia, working at EGO Translating, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, and Hilton Hotels in Siberia. Inexplicably drawn to the frigid Siberian climate, Jonah decided to spend the year after college teaching English in Novosibirsk, Russia on a Fulbright Scholarship.
Jonah’s linguistic curiosity has propelled him to learn Russian, Chinese, Portuguese, Hebrew, French, and Spanish, design an alternative Russian language instruction program, and create an online English language learning curriculum. He looks forward to not only teaching the intricacies of Russian grammar, but also the lifelong tricks necessary to build and maintain linguistic fluency and leverage knowledge of Russian into unique professional and educational opportunities.
